View Full Version : Performance chips?
rememberourpatriots 04-19-2008, 09:39 PM I saw some performance chips listed on ebay for the G8 that are supposed to boost horse power and improve gas mileage too. They are supposed to be easy to install and will not void the manufacturer's warranty. All of that for around $20.
I am always cautious of anything too good to be true. Anyone know what this product is about?
Zonestar 04-20-2008, 05:16 AM The reason they will not void a new car warranty is because they do nothing; ripoff . Real performance chip turners cost a lot more.
rememberourpatriots 04-20-2008, 09:34 AM That makes better sense. I could not imagine all the great improvements it was promising for such a low cost. With the price of gas and the promises they are making regarding the improved mileage, it would pay for itself on the first day. Then the increased HP too made it sound like a snake oil cure all. Too good to be true. Thanks Zonestar!
300 Addict 07-29-2008, 09:13 PM Stay away from performance chip. They claim to do more than they actually do. If anything, check to see if there is a tuner out there for your car. The 300/charger/magnum guys are using the Diablo Predator for there cars with awesome results.
pwillis 09-29-2008, 12:25 PM So ya'll are saying the chips are pretty much worthless? That sucks cause I have one right here from SLR motorsports that I was gonna try and hook up, however I haven't been able to locate the IAT sensor wires yet. So it's not even worth a try?
ambenz 10-06-2008, 05:40 PM So it's not even worth a try?
If you got it and know what you are doing, I'd say go for it and post up the outcome.
Just remember, if it doesn't work, you have to be able to return it to its previous state!
fastredg8 11-01-2008, 01:17 AM Your Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is most likely located inside the airbox with the airfilter. I have not gone through all the component locations on my '09 GT but all your SLR chip is most likely doing is creating a resistance which tells the computer that the air is cooler than it truly is causing the injectors to fuel more. With the O2 sensors and mass airflow sensors will usually work against this type of chip. Tuners change fuel injector pulse width and ignition timing along with the other sensor inputs to increase performance. I have just started looking for what type of performance mods may be available for my '09 but the power in it right now is amazing and it only has 250 miles on it.
Sphinx 11-18-2008, 05:31 PM I will sell you a resistor for 20X the price of the resistor if you want one... lol... Does anyone know if JET makes a chip yet??
Sphinx 11-18-2008, 05:35 PM Well after some research... it looks like these are the only two options from JET Chip...

Acually the IAT is not in the airbox, I know this because I installed a Volant intake on my 09 GT.
BigEvil2005 04-05-2009, 09:01 PM I know it seems like a joke but i got one for my Avalanche from a buddy and i am getting 2-4 more miles per gallon...from 14 to almost 18

bflinker1 07-16-2009, 10:21 AM Has anybody used this Cortex chip yet on their G8?

I was considering it but for $400 I though I'd ask around to make sure it was worth it or to find out if there is anything better out there.
Thanks!
xbntbb 08-20-2009, 01:21 PM I have the Superchips Flashpaq and it made 20 rwhp on the dyno. 314.9 rwhp at the end of the day on the 91 octane program. I have since downloaded the 93 octane program and I noticed a difference for the better. Dyno run to come.
david b wilkinson 09-29-2009, 09:06 PM bought a SLP chip, no noticeable improvement with performance or gas economy.
Bob N 09-29-2010, 06:26 PM I came across this G-Force web site that claims increases in HP and fuel mileage with their $69.00 chip. Anyone have any experience with this?

GScott 10-06-2010, 11:40 PM I've installed a Sprint Booster chip, it plugs into the accelerator between the pedal assembly and connector. I've noticed that it has eliminated the lag you experience from drive by wire also a notable increase in accecleration. Shifts in all three modes are also more positive especialley in the sport and manual mode. I have'nt experierenced any ill effects with this modification. It also has three settings to choose from, OEM, MODERATE, AGRESSIVE. I usually leave in the moderate mode, the agressive mode is just that... agressive, in the sport mode it will hang in gear longer before shifting, quite the adrenalene rush... almost spooky at times. Overall I'm pleased with application.
Bob N 10-07-2010, 08:05 AM Where did you get the chip, and how much? Have you noticed any increase/decrease
in fuel economy?
WhiteNyt 10-19-2010, 11:49 PM As far as custom mods go, Their is a general consensus from most g8 forums that tuners like Diablo predators, Superchips and HP tuners are the most popular and widely recommended tuners.
jaxredg8 10-22-2010, 09:31 PM I prefer my dyno tune and then storing three different tunes in SCT tuner. All motor, 125 shot and 150-175 shot. Just my .02

So what was the end result?
Bob N 02-02-2012, 06:35 PM If you notice, I posted this back in October 2010. Never pursued any further after reading everyone else's reply's, here and on other forums.
